Cultural Connections May Visit to Pearston

Cultural Connections May Visit to Pearston

Reflecting on a Wonderful May Visit to Pearston!

From 19–22 May, our Cultural Connections team had the joy of spending four productive days in Pearston, supporting teacher professional development and strengthening our Edu Change programme in this special rural Eastern Cape community.

Here’s a snapshot of our time together:

  • Tuesday morning: Teaching alongside dedicated Intermediate Phase teachers Setu and Khanyi at Lukhanyiso Primary – wonderful lessons, great learner engagement, and valuable reflections on visual literacy and drama activities.
  • Tuesday afternoon: Tine delivered an inspiring “Get Ready to Learn” workshop – beautifully received by 26 teachers at Pearston Primary.
  • Wednesday morning: Creative club training with Abby, Luvuyo and Bongie, where we explored collage, experiential learning and puppet-making… Such positive energy!
  • Wednesday & Thursday: Training sessions with our committed Foundation Phase literacy practitioners – Maruska, Thabisa, Nella and Mella. We unpacked the new curriculum, discussed WordWorks integration and designed creative teaching strategies.

These visits remind us how powerful hands-on collaboration is for teacher growth and community development. Thank you to everyone who welcomed us, shared their classrooms, and engaged so openly. Together we are building stronger foundations for our children!
